It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of accomplishment that we celebrate Nexo’s fifth anniversary. Exactly five years ago, on April 30, 2018, we embarked on a journey to revolutionize digital finance and provide a safe, secure, and sustainable way for our global clients to manage their assets.
Nexo was born amidst what we now frequently call a “sizable Bitcoin pullback” when we want to put things mildly, losing its $20,000 all-time high – initially in an abrupt 50% drop over 3 weeks, followed by a painfully grinding halt to $3,500 for the remainder of 2018.
It was right there that the Nexo platform and the world’s first crypto-backed loans came to be. BTC stood at $9,250 that day. In hindsight, those were some of the most arduous times in my professional journey. However, they provided our small team with invaluable lessons and taught us to emerge stronger from every market correction and industry upheaval all while maintaining our entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering integrity.
The First Five
Through it all, we have made great strides in the competitive and state-of-the-art crypto space, further solidifying our position as a leader in the industry. Looking back, we’ve come a long way since those early days. And I have to agree with them – looking back to 2018, it sure feels like a lot more than five years have passed. Who would have thought you’d be able to buy a property using Bitcoin as collateral? Or that Twitter would have Dogecoin as its logo? Or that someone would pay millions for an NFT and then use it to take out a loan?
I guess all of these developments are the reason why a year in crypto feels like nothing else…
