Fable on Xbox Series X Could Make the Excruciating Wait Worth It

  • Playground Games finally announces a new Fable game, coming to Xbox Series X.
  • The game would be the first main entry in the Fable series since Fable 3 was released on Xbox 360 in 2010.
  • The new title could use the Xbox Series X specs and make up for the long wait for a new release.

While some felt that the Xbox Games Showcase disappointed, one of the genuinely good moments from the event was the official announcement of a new Fable game.

There have long been rumors that Playground Games is developing Fable 4, and now that has been confirmed.

Fable Xbox Series X Trailer Teases a ‘New Beginning’ for the Series

The trailer didn’t have a lot of useful information. The game will be “a new beginning for the legendary franchise” and will allow players to “explore a land of fantastical creatures and wondrous places.” It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch because the Xbox team wants that recurring revenue.

Information such as its release date and gameplay features were left out. All fans know is that a new Fable game is coming to Xbox Series X and PC.

What fans do know, though, is that the next Fable game will be bigger, better-looking, and far more ambitious than any of the three main Fable games that have come before it. That’s all down to the stupendously powerful specs of the Xbox Series X.

Fans Can Expect Fable to Look Better and Load Faster on Xbox Series X

The biggest difference will likely be in the size of the game and the speed at which it can load.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, another fantasy RPG with a boatload of content, can take as long as three minutes and 20 seconds to load on the Xbox One S. Grand Theft Auto V also takes a while, with a loading time of two minutes and three seconds on the same console model.

These games aren’t small, but the Xbox Series X SSD has speeds of 4.8GB/s. In comparison, the Xbox One S drive offers 5,400RPM, with a capable average of just 100MB/s. That’s a 48 times difference.

It would be ridiculous if Fable were 48 times larger than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game that takes around 300 hours to fully complete. What it does mean, though, is that Playground Games can make a game with better graphics that loads in seconds.

Fans have seen just a glimpse of that. The lush green hills and the far-off kingdom in the distance all point to a big world with tons of things to see and do. It’s a small teaser, but with the Xbox Series X specs behind it, Fable could be what fans have been waiting for.
